KANNUR: An Air India Express flight from Kannur to Jeddah returned to the airport due to a technical fault. The engine of flight AXB778, which took off for Jeddah at 8:30 am on Tuesday, developed a fault. It was then decided to make an emergency landing.
The plane initially tried to land in Mangaluru but was unable to do so and returned to Kannur. The plane then circled for more than an hour and then landed after reducing its fuel. Airport authorities have said that there is no cause for concern. A major accident was averted due to the timely intervention of the pilot.
Authorities said that the 150 passengers and crew on board the plane are safe. The passengers have been shifted to the terminal. A detailed inspection will be conducted to find out the cause of the technical fault. The plane will be used for the next service only after the fault is resolved.
