KANNUR: Unruly behaviour from the department head, harassment in the name of internal marks, and hushed-up complaints. Nithin Raj’s classmates and senior students on the campus opened up about the unprecedented problems they are facing at Anjarakandy Dental College. The students talked about this on condition of anonymity.

A senior student revealed that the head of the dental anatomy department, Dr M.K. Ram, used to hurl expletives at students. They even alleged Mr Ram of using body shaming as a tool to hurt students. If objected to the behaviour, the retaliation will be by deducting internal marks. He would ensure that the protesting student fails the practical exam. This has led many students not to respond to the atrocities happening in the college.

Friends recalled Nithin as a hardworking student who dreamed big about becoming a dental surgeon. It is reported that Dr Ram made Nithin stand up in his class and made fun of his mother. Meanwhile, Nithin’s relative Ashok Kumar alleged that the student was called a stray dog' in the classroom by Dr Ram. It is also alleged that Ram used to abuse Nithin based on his caste, colour, and his father's profession.
