Ganesh Kumar surprised by MVD's report on private bus employees; KSRTC employees are ones who brought shame

PATHANAPURAM: Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar said that the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) will intensify the inspections to find the KSRTC employees who report to duty after getting drunk. He said that accidents involving KSRTC buses have come down since inspections were introduced. He also stated that not a single person was found to be intoxicated when the private bus employees were examined.

"Accidents involving KSRTC buses have come down ever since the inspections were introduced. This shows that the inspections are yielding results. The other day, five buses were inspected in Kanthalloor. There were 10 employees there. Nine of them were found to be drunk. The 10th man looked like a gentleman. However, when the officials checked his bag, they found a large bottle of liquor in it. According to the Vigilance, a drunken party was going on there," Ganesh Kumar said.

"The thing that surprised me is that despite inspecting 1009 private buses in the state, none of the employees of those buses were found to be drunk. One doesn't know if those employees were using some other substances instead of liquor. Anyway, we are intensifying all inspections to ensure the safety of passengers. Despite conducting inspections in 1009 private buses, not even one private bus employee was found to be drunk by the MVD officials. The reason behind this is the fact that the bus owners will not allow drunken employees to report for duty," the minister said.
