KOTTAYAM: Orthodox church has lashed out at chief minister. The church said that in Kerala, fascist tendencies are increasing more than communal politics. Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios Metropolitan, head of media wing of the church faction has said that Pinarayi Vijayan has been considered as the chief minister of the state and if that respect is to be given he should intervene in such a manner. He also added that those in power show autocratic tendencies whenever they get a chance, and the chief minister is addressed as ‘honourable’ not because of fear.

“Chief minister only need to give political responses to the party’s local office. If he behaves with dignity to the church, it will be beneficial to him and why he is so intolerant towards the church. The church was agitated by the chief minister’s response to a priest from the orthodox church who asked him about the church row. The metropolitan also said that chief minister cannot rule the state according to his whims and fancy and he also cannot question the sacred garb of the priests. “It is high time that he change his attitude,” the metropolitan said.

He also said that orthodox church is not the slave of the chief minister to intervene over the church row, violating the court verdict. He also said that the eviction of the church is undertaken as part of the legal proceedings and it is not done as per the mercy of the government. Anybody can come to the church but for religious ceremonies the special nod of Malankara Metropolitan is necessary.

He also warned that the chief minister should never have the wrong impression that the court’s decision could be surpassed through discussions. He also said that Prime minister has given the message that is anybody is under the wrong impression that the national capital is Thiruvananthapuram, then it should be changed. He also said that the concern of the church has been informed to the Prime Minister.
