CHENNAI: The Madurai Bench of the high court criticized Rebecca Joseph, a native of Kochi, for her plea seeking to handover Arikomban to Kerala. It could not be said that the elephant should be taken and translocate here and there. The plea was filed just for fame, the court criticized.

The court had initially stopped the release of Arikomban the other day on her plea. The court later permitted the release of the tusker when the Tamil Nadu government announced that it would be translocated to Kalakkad Mundathurai Tiger Sanctuary in such a way that the public would not be disturbed.

Rebecca's plea sought to translocate Arikomban to Mathikettan Shola sector. The court had also considered the plea of advocate Gopal of Theni demanding to handover the elephant to Kerala.

The forest department of Tamil Nadu decided to tranquilize the elephant after it entered the residential area of Kambam creating a tense situation. Prohibitory orders were imposed in Kambam Municipality as part of it.
