THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.
The central meteorological department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram. The officials have warned that heavy rains are likely in Kerala due to the influence of easterly/northeasterly winds blowing from Bay of Bengal to southeast India and the cyclonic circulation prevailing over Comorin region.
The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of 1.0 to 1.3 meter high waves and storm surge along the Kerala coast till 11.30 tonight. 1.0 to 1.4 meters high wave and rough seas are likely to occur along South Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm. Fishermen and coastal residents have been warned. Meantime, the central meteorological department has informed that there is no disruption to fishing in the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts.
