PALAKKAD: A leopard was found dead near Koonam bridge at Nelliyampathy in Palakkad. The body of the leopard was found on the estate road in Nelliyampathy. This is the way for the workers to the tea plantation.

The leopard was found lying on the road by a milkman at 5.30 Monday morning. The leopard’s internal organs were found outside after its stomach bursts. An arm was found broken. The forest department officials reached the spot and conducted an inspection. The preliminary conclusion is that a vehicle may have hit the leopard.

Meantime, the presence of wildlife animals in residential areas is becoming a regular incident. Many human lives are losing lives due to animal attacks. Wild elephants have killed many people. Since 2018, around 110 people have lost their lives in elephant attacks. Six months ago, three including two in Kottayam and one in Kollam, were killed on the same day by the attack of wild buffaloes.

The threat of tigers and leopards are continuing in Pathanamthitta and Wayanad. The issue in Chinnakkanal and Shanthanpara area ended after Arikomban was shifted from there. Although it is calm now, Arikomban had spread terror in settlements such as Kumili and Kambam near Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
