Longest six-lane elevated highway in India; construction of Alappuzha Aroor–Thuravoor Elevated Expressway moving fast

ALAPPUZHA: The construction of the National Highway in Kerala is progressing at a fast pace. Experts are of the opinion that there is a high possibility that the construction of the national highway will have a decisive impact on the development of the state. The Elevated Expressway being built on the Alapuzha Aroor–Thuravoor route as a part of NH 66 is one of the largest highways in the country. 374 pillars are being constructed as part of the Elevated Expressway. More than 30 percent of these pillars are in progress.

374 pillars are being constructed in 12.75 km from Aroor to Thuravoor. Of this, 115 pillars are ready for placing concrete girders and 53 pillars are ready for concrete. The contractors are trying to complete the construction of maximum pillars before monsoon in June.

Aroor–Thuravoor Elevated Highway is 24 meters wide. Reports say that the longest six-lane elevated road to be built on a single pillar in the country is being constructed here. Only about half an acre of land had to be acquired for the elevated road. Apart from the six-lane elevated road, a ramp is also being constructed to go down to the Venduruthy Bridge. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,675 crore.
