Kadamattathu Kathanar’s fall from grace, Prakash Paul opens up

Malayalam serial Kadamattathu Kathanar was a major hit. Prakash Paul played the lead role in the serial narrating the fantasy tales of a priest. The actor revealed that the serial which once made huge profit turned into a heavy financial loss. He opened up about this while talking to a YouTube channel.

'My address is still Kadamattathu Kathanar. I was not called to act as Kathanar in the serial. Called me for the shoot of the title song. I was called as a dupe of Kathanar, seen in the director's mind. Four months later called me again. There were talks among the crew to cast me as Kathanar which I became by chance.

I did nothing special to bring life into the character. One of the reasons for the success of the serial is the theme song. I didn't get the recognition that a normal actor gets. Many did not see me as an actor. Everyone thought I was a priest. They thought I was sent on deputation from the diocese to act as Kathanar.

Everyone thought that I was Kadamattathu Kathanar. In the beginning, I found it difficult. Seeing me as Kathanar after reaching home was very difficult. I liked to be known by my own name, but after acting in the serial, my name started disappearing and came to be known as Kathanar. Many friends had saved my number as Kathanar.

Many had come to see me with devotion. Kathanar was a serial with good rating. It soon started airing in another channel. Without asking, they gave me money initially. They did not have money later, but continued shooting. A financial liability occurred. Kadamattathu Kathanar is now being made a film with Jayasurya in the lead role. The movie is going to be completely different from the serial. It will be successful,’ said Prakash Paul.
