Financial liability: Couple commits suicide by drinking acid

VELLARADA: In a shocking incident, a couple committed suicide by drinking acid. The deceased have been identified as Vellarada Kiliyoor native Joseph (73) and his wife Lalithabhai (64). It was a tapping worker who found the couple lying dead in the rubber plantation near their house on Monday morning. Upon learning about the incident, the couple's relatives rushed to the spot and informed the police.

A police team led by Vellarada CI Prasad and SI Russel Raj reached the spot and conducted an investigation. A bottle of acid was found near the bodies. Forensic experts and fingerprint experts collected evidence for further investigation.

The preliminary conclusion of the police is that the couple committed suicide due to financial liability. Joseph had taken a loan from a private money lending firm for the construction of his house. However, he failed to repay the loan as he spent a large amount on the treatment of his son Satheesh, a heart patient. It is said that the officials of the firm threatened him as he failed to repay the loan. Joseph's relatives also told the police that Joseph and Lalithabhai committed suicide due to their financial liability.
