CHENNAI: The Kerala High Court said controversial godman Nityananda is hiding somewhere and challenging the legal system. Madurai Bench raised the criticism against the self-styled godman. Nityananda is not appearing before the court despite arrest warrant in many cases. The court also asked whether there is a need to protect the property of such people. The court was considering an anticipatory bail plea filed by a native of Karnataka, a disciple of the godman.

The whereabouts of Nityananda is still unclear. A case was registered against Nityananda on the complaint of his driver in 2010. He was arrested but later got bail. The same driver revealed in 2020 that Nityananda had left the country. Nityananda fled to Ecuador via Nepal in 2019 while facing trial in the case of trafficking girls from an ashram in Ahmedabad. There is Interpol’s Blue Corner Notice pending against him. It was only after this he bought a private island, named it 'Kailasa' and proclaimed that he had created a new nation with his followers.

A representative of Kailasa participating in UN meeting had stoked a controversy. Nityananda on the invitation he got to attend the Ayodhya Ram Temple Prana Prathishta function was also widely discussed. Nityananda has asserted that after his death, his body and wealth should be taken to India. The body should be laid to rest in the ashram in Bengaluru. Nityananda has informed to hand over his wealth to India.
