In the 90s era of South Indian movies, there was no dearth of talented actresses. It was deemed difficult for a newcomer to make an impact in a field that was copious with talents. The top-tier list of those times was graced with names of Shobana, Urvashi, Ramya Krishnan and Meena among a few. However, a Chennai-born talented actress did the impossible and turned into an overnight sensation.

After her modest debut in 1991, actress Sukanya in her short career had paired opposite industry behemoths like Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Jayaram. Sathayaraj ,Prabhu and even legendary Kamal Haasan.

Director Alleppey Ashraf has now revealed some unknown facts about Sukanya through his YouTube channel ‘Kandethum Kettathum’.

Alleppey Ashraf:

“It was at the pinnacle of success that the actress decided to get married. The relationship survived for just a few months. Soon she developed an aversion towards marriage and the 54-year-old actress is still enjoying the solitary life.

She married an American businessman and left the world of glitter to cross the sea and land in the USA. She craved family life and had no qualms about dropping her ambitious film career. However, in US, she went through terrible domestic torture. Despite many attempts, the marriage didn’t work and ended in divorce.

Even after her return, Sukanya found no difficulty in getting film roles but the old sheen was gone. Despite her young age, what reached Sukanya was motherly roles while her old peers were still relishing being heroines. Happiness got back into her life when a baby was born to her sister. Life felt merrier as she considered the baby as her own.

She lost a promising career, her marital life stumbled within months, her dreams shattered, solitary life and more. Despite all these odds, Sukanya continues to work and live happily in Chennai. The actress in a recent interview admitted that she won't marry again. She is a paragon of strength and should be the real torch bearer of feminism.”
