THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala termed Nair Service Society (NSS) as a secular brand. The Congress party benefited from participating in the celebrations of Mannam Jayanthi, he said in an interview to a media.

He clarified that there was no specific goal or planning for participating in the celebrations. 'Whenever our presence is needed and if we are invited, we should go. There is no specific purpose for it. Everyone calls me and I go,' he said.

Chennithala also clarified that he has good relations with all community organizations. This is not the time to talk about those who tried to brand me. There are no mediators in resolving the dispute with NSS. He added that he talked directly to general secretary G Sukumaran Nair.

Sukumaran Nair had yesterday said that Chennithala is the son of NSS. Chennithala is the most deserving person to inaugurate the Mannam Jayanthi meet. He was not invited for being a congressman. It was not for using his political influence. If there is such a misunderstanding, it should be corrected. He has been a child of this soil since his childhood. He was the inaugurator of the celebrations because of his birth, clarified Nair.
