THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mission to dock Indian satellites Chaser and Target in space is entering its final phase. At an altitude of 476 km, the distance between the satellites was reduced to 230 meters, which was 1.5 km earlier. With this, the effort for the Space Docking Experiment mission has reached its final stage.
The attempt to bring the satellites closer from 500 meters to 225 meters on Thursday had failed. Following this, the mission was postponed. After moving the satellites to a distance of 1.5 km on Friday, they were brought closer to 230 meters by tonight. Now it will be brought closer by 15 meters and then to 3 meters. The docking will be done after that. If successful, India will become the country with the capability to dock and undock satellites and probes in space. At present, only America, Russia and China have this technology. India is testing its indigenously developed technology.
