ALAPPUZHA: In Haripad, it is alleged that a Plus One student was subjected to a group assault by his classmates, under the instruction of a female student. The mother of the victim claims that the girl—a classmate of her son—ordered the attack after he rejected her romantic advances. According to the complaint, 16 students, acting on the instructions of a 19-year-old, locked the boy inside a classroom and beat him brutally.
The incident took place on the 15th of this month. Initially, the victim could not comprehend the reason behind the attack. It was only after the local MLA, Ramesh Chennithala—who also serves as the Home Minister—sought an explanation from the school authorities, and the students were subsequently questioned, that the involvement of the female student came to light.
The girl studying in Plus One had expressed her affection for the student who was subsequently assaulted. It is reported that, out of resentment over his rejection, she sought the help of a male friend who studies at the Chengannur ITC. Acting on this friend's instructions, students from a school in Haripad carried out the assault. The 17-year-old victim, who spent three days at the Alappuzha Medical College, is still undergoing treatment; he is still required to wear a neck collar. He sustained severe injuries to his head, face, and back.
The students responsible for the assault have been suspended from school for one month. The girl's involvement in the incident came to light recently. Based on a complaint filed by the victim, the Haripad police registered a case and initiated an investigation. A report has also been submitted to the Juvenile Justice Board.
“My son was subjected to a brutal assault. It was rumoured that he had been beaten up in connection with an incident involving a girl. It was due to the minister’s intervention that the truth came to light. Following the Minister’s intervention, school authorities questioned the student who had initially attacked my son; the student then revealed that it was a quotation—carried out at the behest of a girl,” said the victim’s mother.
