ALAPPUZHA: Sister Anupama, who led the protest demanding action against Bishop Franco Mulakkal in the case of sexually abusing a nun, has given up her monastic life. Anupama is presently working as a data entry operator in an IT firm in Pallipuram Infopark.

Anupama is an MSW graduate. Anupama was serving at the Kuravilangad Nuns Convent under the Jalandhar Diocese. She returned to her home in Alappuzha a month and a half ago. Anupama has not responded to the issue.

A nun had complained that Bishop Franco had molested her 13 times from 2014 to 2016. The nuns went on strike after no action was taken against Franco despite filing a complaint. Franco was later arrested but was granted bail. He was acquitted in January 2022.
