THRISSUR: CPI State Council member VS Sunil Kumar has alleged that VR Krishna Teja, who was the Thrissur District Collector during the Lok Sabha elections, had two votes. Sunil Kumar was the LDF candidate in the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat.
According to Sunil Kumar, Krishna Teja's name appeared in the voters' list under different IDs in both Chilakaluripet in Andhra Pradesh, his native place, and in Thrissur. “If this is the case with the very people responsible for checking and ensuring fairness in elections, what can be expected? The reply received under the Right to Information Act is suspicious. The Election Commission should stop hiding matters of public interest from the people,” Sunil Kumar said.
"Although clear evidence has already come out regarding the irregularities in the voter list of the Thrissur Assembly constituency, the Election Commission has not taken any legal action. Under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, a person being registered as a voter in more than one constituency is a punishable offence. The Election Commission had issued a notice to Congress leader Pawan Khera on the same grounds. Even though there is clear evidence and complaints against several BJP leaders who are registered both in the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency and in other constituencies, the Commission has not taken any action so far. This is a double standard, and the Commission must answer,” he said at a press conference.
The RTI application was filed by Adv. K.B. Samesh, CPI Thrissur constituency secretary and LDF election committee constituency secretary. CPI District Secretary K.G. Sivanandan and Adv. K.B. Samesh also attended the press conference.
