THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Children were initiated into the world of letters on the Vijayadashami day. Children were initiated into the world of letters at public functions organised by religious/educational institutions, charitable organisations, cultural and media establishments across the state as part of the Vidyarambham ritual marking the conclusion of the Navaratri festival.
Parents with children turned up in large numbers at Kollur Mookambika Devi Temple for vidyarambham. The elders held the hands of small children and helped them write their first alphabets in a plate of rice grains.
The function organised by Kerala Kaumudi at the SNDP Hall started at 7.30 am. Seven noted personalities present there wrote a word on every child’s tongue with a gold ring. Gifts were given to the children who wrote ‘Hari Shree Ganapathaye Namah’. M Chandradathan, ISRO former scientist and scientific advisor to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Fire Force chief A Hemachandran, special secretary of department of Social Justice, Ananthapuri Hospital chief and managing director Dr Marthanda Pillai, first vice chancellor of Veterinaty University and power secretary Dr B Ashok, former sub collector Divya S Iyer and sensor board member Girija Sethunath were there to initiate the tiny tots into the world of letters.
The functions were held at famous Saraswathy Temples like Panachikkad Saraswathy Temple in Kottayam, Ezhukone Mookambika Temple in Kollam, Moookambika Saraswathy Temple in North Paravoor, , Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Chottanikkara Devi Temple, Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple and at Thunchan Parambu.
