THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government Medical College doctors will go on an indefinite strike from today to protest against non-payment of guaranteed salary arrears and allowances. From today, VIP duty, pay ward duty, non-Covid, non-emergency meetings and jobs unrelated to patients or teaching will be boycotted.

Officials of the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA), an organization of medical college doctors, said they would go on a 24-hour strike on the 17th if no action was taken.

The government had held discussions with the doctors two weeks ago. Ministers KK Shailaja and Thomas Isaac had assured them that the arrears and allowances from 2016 would be allowed. However, arrears and allowances from 2019 were only allowed. The doctors have launched the strike in protest of this.
