SC grants bail to first accused Abdul Salam in RSS activist Sanjith murder case

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Abdul Salam, the first accused in the murder case of RSS activist Sanjith in Palakkad. The bail was granted by the bench comprising Justice M M Sundaresh and Justice P B Varale. Bail was granted after the three eyewitnesses in the case were examined.

Senior advocates R Basant and Vishnu P, appearing for Abdul Salam, argued that he had been in prison for the past four years and should be granted bail since the examination of witnesses had been completed. However, Aljo K Joseph, the standing counsel appearing for the state government, argued that the accused could influence the witnesses. Despite this objection, the Supreme Court granted bail.

Sanjith of Edappukulam in Elappully and the RSS Baudhik Pramukh of Thenari, was hacked to death at Mambram in Kinasery on the morning of November 15, 2022. Sanjith, who was on a bike with his wife, was hacked to death by a car borne gang. Popular Front and SDPI activists were accused of murdering Sanjith. There are 24 accused in the case.
