Ansiba Hassan's complaint: Court orders case against Lakshmi Priya

KOCHI: The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-IX, Ernakulam, has directed the police to register a case against actress Lakshmi Priya based on a complaint filed by actress Ansiba Hassan, alleging that she was insulted through social media.

Ansiba had earlier approached the police alleging that Lakshmi Priya had insulted her womanhood and made sexually coloured and obscene remarks about her through a YouTube channel. However, the police did not register a case based on the complaint.

Ansiba subsequently approached the magistrate court. The court initially treated the matter as a private complaint instead of directing the police to register a case and investigate the allegations. She then approached the Kerala High Court challenging the order.

On September 7, the High Court directed the magistrate court to reconsider the complaint. Justice Jobin Sebastian set aside the earlier order, observing that the complaint had not been properly considered before the court concluded whether the allegations disclosed a cognisable offence. The High Court directed the magistrate to independently examine the allegations and the materials on record and determine whether a police investigation was warranted.

Following the High Court's order, the Ernakulam Magistrate Court directed the police to register a case based on Ansiba's complaint.
