Heavy rain leads to waterlogging in Kuttanad; Intermittent rain in Pathanamthitta, Achankovil River overflows

ALAPPUZHA: Heavy rain that lashed the district caused waterlogging in Kuttanad. Water level rose in Pallathuruthy, Nedumudi, Kavalam and Neerettupuram. 13 relief camps have been opened. People are being evacuated to the relief camps.

There are intermittent rains in Pathanamthitta. Pathanamthitta district stadium and surrounding areas have been submerged. The main roads to Sabarimala are under water. On the Punalur-Muvattupuzha road, water flooded Konni Vakayar. There is waterlogging in the road from Adoor to Pathanamthitta. Alternative roads have been arranged to reach Sabarimala. The revenue minister will arrive in Pampa today to assess the situation.

Traffic was disrupted after water entered Kumbazha market area. The water level in Pampa Achankovil River is also rising. Achankovil River is overflowing in many places in Pandalam. Many houses in Konni, Iravan and Pramadam areas are under water. Rain lashed Kottayam the whole night. No significant damage was reported in the hilly areas.
