HOUSTON: Even after conceding seven goals, Curaçao celebrated a historic moment as they managed to score against former world champions Germany in their first-ever World Cup appearance. Germany defeated Curaçao 7-1 in their opening Group E match of the World Cup.

Germany took the lead in the sixth minute through Felix Nmecha. However, Curaçao created history in the 21st minute when Livano Comenencia scored their first-ever World Cup goal.

Germany then regained control of the match. Nico Schlotterbeck scored in the 38th minute, while Kai Havertz converted a penalty in the 45+5th minute. Jamal Musiala added another goal in the 47th minute.

Germany continued their dominance in the second half, with Nathaniel Brown scoring in the 68th minute, Deniz Undav finding the net in the 78th minute, and Havertz completing the scoring with his second goal in the 87th minute.

Curaçao, with a population of only 158,000, is the smallest country ever to participate in the World Cup.

Brazil held by Morocco, Australia win
Morocco, who finished fourth in the previous World Cup, held Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their opening Group C match.

Ismaël Saibari gave Morocco the lead in the 21st minute, while Vinícius Júnior scored Brazil’s equaliser in the 32nd minute.

In another Group C match, Scotland defeated Haiti 1-0 to move above Brazil and Morocco at the top of the group.
