GLASGOW: India's Gulveer Singh won the silver medal in the men's 10,000m event at the Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men's 10,000m. He clocked 27:49.78 to take the silver medal. Australia's Ky Robinson claimed the gold medal after clocking 27:48.93, while David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man took bronze.
In weightlifting, India's Valluri Ajay Babu won the silver medal in the men's under-79 kg weightlifting event. It was India's fourth silver and sixth overall medal in weightlifting at the Games. The 21-year-old lifted a Games record 149 kg in the snatch and 181 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 330 kg to claim silver. Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad won the gold with a Games record total of 331 kg, while England's Chris Murray claimed the bronze medal.
Earlier, in the women's weightlifting events, Mirabai Chanu won gold, Gyaneshwari Yadav secured silver, and Bindyarani Devi claimed bronze. In the men's category, Rishi Kantha Singh, Raja Muthupandi and Valluri Ajay Babu won silver medals for India.
