NEW DELHI: Two more Air India pilots have reportedly tested positive in drug screening conducted by the airline following the recent incident in which a Phuket-Delhi flight dropped 300 feet. Authorities said they are awaiting the results of confirmatory tests, which are expected within 24 to 48 hours. Air India had made drug testing mandatory for all its pilots just days ago.
Earlier, a pilot operating the Phuket-Delhi flight involved in the August 4 incident was found to have used drugs, according to initial test results. The aircraft reportedly flew without pilot control for four seconds after the pilot lost control. As many as 24 people, including passengers and crew members, were injured in the incident.
Following the August 4 incident, the Ministry of Civil Aviation asked Air India to show greater responsibility in matters related to flight safety. The airline subsequently made drug screening mandatory for all pilots as part of tighter safety measures.
