India wins gold in shooting; Neeru Dhanda bags India’s first individual gold in Asian Games

NAGOYA: India won gold medal in the women's trap shooting event at the Asian Games, with Neeru Dhanda securing the top spot. This was India's first individual gold medal at the Asian Games and its fifth gold medal overall.

Neeru finished first with 28 points, while China's Sun Yunong won silver with 26 points. Kuwait's Hajar Abdulmalik claimed the bronze medal.

India also won silver in the women's shooting trap team event, finishing second with 328 points. China won gold in the women's team event, while Kuwait secured bronze.

Meantime, Indian athletes continued to shine at the Asian Games yesterday, winning silver and bronze medals in track and field events. India secured three silver and three bronze medals in athletics alone. The country also added a silver medal in shooting and a bronze in Kurash.

Malayali long jumper M Sreeshankar, Gulveer Singh in the 1,500 metres, and Yashveer Singh in the javelin throw won silver medals in athletics.

Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women's 5,000 metres, while Vidhya Ramraj secured bronze in the 400-metre hurdles. Rohit Yadav won bronze in the men's javelin throw.

In shooting, Esha Singh won silver in the 25-metre pistol event. Pinki Balhara claimed the bronze medal in Kurash.
