The actress, who also appeared in several Tamil and Telugu films before stepping away from acting after her marriage, recently revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She has now informed fans through social media that her treatment is progressing and that she has begun the second round of chemotherapy.
Uma Shankari said the first few days after learning about her diagnosis were emotionally overwhelming. She added that it took time for her to come to terms with the reality of her condition.
Sharing her latest update, she wrote, 'Round 2 of chemo/ immune, and I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm learning how to handle the days that are heavy, and celebrating the days I feel strong. Thank you to my family for always standing by me, and to my fans for the love and support. I'm showing up, healing, and staying focused on progress. Progress isn't perfect, but it's real.'

Uma Shankari admitted that accepting the diagnosis was one of the most difficult parts of her journey. She said she struggled to come to terms with the fact that she had cancer.
