BENGALURU: A BJP MLA's daughter has been accused of assaulting a woman police officer at a temple in Karnataka. The complaint was filed against Aishwarya, the daughter of BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda from Tumakuru. The officer who was allegedly assaulted was Sub-Inspector Savita Patil, who was on special duty at a temple festival. Savita herself filed the complaint, accusing Aishwarya of assaulting her.

The incident reportedly took place inside the temple at around 8.15 pm on August 12 during Bhima Amavasya celebrations. Savita, who is attached to the Mandya Women's Police Station, was on duty at the temple. According to the complaint, Aishwarya got into an argument with the officer after she was allegedly delayed from entering the temple. She allegedly verbally abused and slapped the police officer and obstructed her from carrying out her official duties.

MLA B Suresh Gowda expressed regret over the incident. However, he alleged that the police officer had abused his daughter first.

"My daughter had gone to the temple for darshan. She asked for permission to enter the sanctum, but the police did not allow her. However, a Circle Inspector was allowed inside. She again requested permission to enter, and during this, the police officer allegedly abused my daughter. An argument followed. I have not seen any video of my daughter assaulting the police officer. However, I apologise for the incident," Suresh Gowda said.

An FIR has been registered under various sections in connection with the incident. Although the FIR includes non-bailable charges, Aishwarya has not yet been taken into custody or issued a notice.
