Dispute over bringing baby to workplace led CISF jawan to kill four colleagues in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: A dispute over bringing a baby to the workplace allegedly led a CISF jawan to open fire on his colleagues at a hydropower project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua, killing four of them. Head Constable Avdesh Kumar Singh allegedly fired 18 rounds from his service rifle, killing Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and Constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.

The incident took place at the Sewa-III Hydroelectric Power Project in Mashka village, which borders Himachal Pradesh. Avdesh Kumar and his wife, Head Constable Pooja Devi, were both posted at the project. They worked in different shifts and would take their baby to the workplace. The person whose shift ended would usually take the baby back home. However, bringing the baby to the workplace was not permitted. Avdesh was posted on duty in the quarter guard area, where the unit administration had not allowed Pooja Devi to enter or stay with the baby.

On the day of the incident, Pooja Devi arrived at the workplace with the baby. An officer on duty informed company commander Ankit Kumar Pandey about this. After learning about it, Avdesh Kumar arrived with his rifle and opened fire on four colleagues. Other personnel later overpowered him and he was arrested.
