"You are lazy and incompetent?”: Kangana Ranaut slams officials over development delays

MANDI: Actor and BJP MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut pulled up officials over the slow utilisation of funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). She raised the issue during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district.

Kangana questioned officials over delays in implementing development works. She stressed that public money should reach the intended beneficiaries and should not be misused. Kangana alleged that 30 to 40 per cent of public money was going into the wrong hands. She called for stronger monitoring and accountability. She said any lapse or irregularity in the implementation of projects should not be ignored.

The MP also expressed dissatisfaction over development works in her constituency remaining pending for up to two years. “The time for saying that things will be resolved is over. These are matters that are one-and-a-half to two years old. Now get the work done and report to me that it has been completed,” she told officials.

Kangana also questioned officials over the slow progress of works despite funds being available. She alleged that she had allocated around Rs 11 crore, but that work had not progressed as expected.
“What am I supposed to say in front of the media? Should I say that all of you come here only to draw salaries? What am I supposed to say about the people of our state? Should I have to tell them about their approach towards their work? “Should I tell the national media that those sitting in these chairs are lazy and incompetent? What am I supposed to say about my own constituency and my own people?” Kangana asked.

She directed officials to ensure that Central government schemes and development projects do not remain confined to paper. Their benefits should reach eligible beneficiaries, she said.
Kangana also called for development works to be completed within the stipulated time. She has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of officials at DISHA meetings. At a meeting held in October 2025, she warned officials to take review meetings seriously. She also called for greater accountability in the implementation of development works.
