RBI extends last date to exchange Rs 2000 notes at banks

NEW DELHI: The Reserve Bank has extended the last date to exchange Rs 2000 notes at banks by one more week. The Reserve Bank announced that the notes can be exchanged at banks till October 7. The deadline has been extended keeping in mind the convenience of Indians who are currently abroad.

The previous deadline announced to exchange Rs 2000 notes at banks was September 30. The RBI announced that it has so far received ₹ 3.42 lakh crore worth of ₹ 2,000 notes from a total of ₹ 3.56 lakh crore in circulation. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank has also stated that the legal validity of the notes will continue.
