Red Bull challenges FSSAI ban on energy drink label

NEW DELHI: The makers of Red Bull have approached the high court against the ban on using the term energy drink in caffeinated beverages. Red Bull, the Austrian beverage manufacturer moved the court against the action of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The FSSAI had issued an order granting global beverage companies a 90-day window to stop using the term 'energy drink' for their products. Major companies including Red Bull, PepsiCo, Monster Beverage, Reliance, and Hell Energy fall under the purview of this directive.

According to the FSSAI, there are presently no specific standards set in India for products categorized as energy drinks. However, Red Bull has alleged that FSSAI took this action without any prior notice. The company pointed in its plea that this move has adversely affected its operations and business in India.
