ABU DHABI: Not just Captain Smit Machchhar's extraordinary guts, but the mental resilience shown by his family is also garnering attention. Dr Aarti Sharma, a resident of the housing society where Captain Smit and his family live, shared details on how Smit’s family responded to news of the foiled terrorist attack on the FlyDubai FZ1073 flight that left the Indian captain seriously injured.

Upon learning of the incident, neighbours contacted the captain's wife, offering assistance and all possible help. Dr Sharma noted that, despite the alarming situation, Smit's wife remained calm. She thanked the neighbours for their prayers and confirmed that her husband was safe.

Such a mature response prompted Dr Sharma to reflect on the role of family members standing behind individuals facing a crisis. "Whenever we celebrate someone's courage, there is a family behind that person waiting for their loved one to return home safely. They live in a state of fear, hope, and prayer," Dr Sharma said.
