Two merchant vessels collide off Gujarat coast; 21 crew members brought ashore

KANDLA: Two merchant vessels collided near Kandla port in Gujarat, triggering an emergency rescue operation by the Indian Coast Guard. The vessels involved in the accident were MV KMAX EMPEROR and MV TRUE MARINER. The collision occurred in the OTB area of Kandla’s outer anchorage.

Of the 24 crew members aboard MV KMAX EMPEROR, 21 have been safely brought ashore. Three crew members remain on the vessel to assist with the ongoing rescue operations, the Indian Coast Guard said. The Coast Guard has also taken preventive measures in view of the possibility of marine pollution following the collision.

The Indian Coast Guard is coordinating with the Directorate General of Shipping, central agencies and the Gujarat state administration for further action. The Coast Guard said it remains on alert to ensure maritime safety and protect Gujarat’s coastal environment.
