CHENNAI: The divorce petition filed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, has been adjourned to August 7. The Chengalpattu Family Court postponed the hearing after both Vijay and Sangeetha failed to appear before the court on Wednesday. Both had requested permission to attend the proceedings through video conferencing, citing security concerns. However, the court did not allow the request. The court also directed both parties to submit their email addresses and questioned Sangeetha’s lawyer over the failure to file the vakalat (legal authorisation document) in the prescribed format.
Sangeetha filed the divorce petition to end their 26-year marriage, citing differences between the couple. The petition reportedly includes serious allegations, including a claim that Vijay has been in a relationship with a co-star since 2021. Apart from divorce, Sangeetha has also sought maintenance and the right to stay at their residence in Neelankarai. Sangeetha and their children were absent from Vijay’s political party launch events and his swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister. Reports about Vijay’s alleged closeness with actress Trisha had also sparked controversy.
Meanwhile, rumours of efforts to reconcile the couple have been gaining attention on social media. Reports that Vijay’s mother Shoba has been trying to bring them back together have also received widespread attention. However, neither Vijay nor Sangeetha has officially commented on the matter so far.
