RANNI: A wild boar entered a mini supermarket in Ranni and attacked Beena, the owner of the shop. The incident happened Sunday morning in Mandirampadi at 8.30 am. The woman sustained serious injuries in the attack. The wild boar was later shot to death.

Although a menace of wild boars is rampant in the area, this is the first time entering a store and attacking. Shortly after the supermarket opened in the morning, a wild boar entered through the front door. The boar rushed towards Beena, who was sorting goods, and attacked her with its tusk. She was seriously injured while trying to block the animal from attacking. When Beena ran out to escape from the animal, it ran after her. The boar escaped when the locals came after hearing her screams. Beena's son was also in the supermarket but he was not injured. There are stitches on Beena's hand. The boar was later found and shot by the locals during a search.

The mini supermarket where the attack took place is located next to the road on the Punalur-Muvattupuzha state highway. The local residents are tensed after the incident.
The menace of wild boars is also very serious in other parts of the state. Although the panchayat authorities have assigned shooters to shoot them, they are not effective.
