NAGERCOIL: In a striking twist just days after 118 sovereigns of gold were stolen from her house, YouTuber Madhumitha has been booked by Rajakkamangalam police on a complaint alleging that she stole a five-sovereign gold chain from an 89-year-old building contractor in 2022. The Tirunelveli-based contractor alleged that Madhumitha took the chain during a meeting and later threatened him when he demanded its return.
According to the complaint, the contractor became acquainted with Madhumitha while undergoing physiotherapy for back pain. In 2022, she allegedly called him and asked him to pick her up near the Tirunelveli court and drop her at the bus stand. He said he drove her in his car and, after dropping her off, realised that the five-sovereign chain he had been wearing was missing. He alleged that Madhumitha threatened him when he later questioned her about the chain.
The contractor said he did not approach the police immediately, fearing humiliation, and filed the complaint later. Rajakkamangalam police registered the case, but as the alleged offence occurred in Tirunelveli, it will be handed over to the Tirunelveli police for further investigation. The allegations have not been proved, and the case remains under investigation.
The development comes shortly after Madhumitha's house at Thambathukonam near Nagercoil was burgled, with around 118 sovereigns of gold jewellery reported stolen. Police subsequently arrested four people and recovered 98 sovereigns, saying the suspects had allegedly monitored her social-media posts showing her jewellery and cash. The latest complaint against Madhumitha has given an unexpected twist to a case that, until recently, centred on her as the victim of a major gold theft.
