THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Abel Augustine, the accused in the case of morphing and circulating pictures of his classmates in the medical college, has been remanded. He has been remanded till August 7. The court will consider his bail plea later. This is the second time he is being produced in the court. The accused was arrested and produced in the court on the basis of the FIR registered in the first stage, but was granted bail.

However, after more students came forward with complaints and protests arose, the police registered more cases and arrested the accused again. Five FIRs have been presently registered against Abel in similar crimes. He was arrested again and produced in the court based on it.

The case against Abel is that he widely circulated the pictures of his classmates and senior students, both morphed and unmorphed, on social media platforms like Reddit and Telegram. The victims (students) themselves filed a complaint with the police.

However, despite receiving more complaints initially, the police were not ready to file a case accordingly. Since it was a similar crime, the police were of the opinion that only one case was enough. Following this, the students protested and blockaded the police station. As the protests intensified, the police were forced to register more cases.
