Kalamassery gang rape case

KOCHI: The woman who was gang-raped in Kalamassery managed to escape from the accused after breaking a beer bottle, holding the broken glass against her neck and threatening to kill herself. The accused panicked, giving her an opportunity to run away. The accused allegedly planned to confine and sexually abuse the woman and later make her available to others. Her husband revealed details of the ordeal to the media. The woman, who suffered severe physical and mental trauma, is undergoing treatment at Kalamassery Medical College. She has injuries across her body.

The woman, a former teacher, had lost her job and was going through a difficult period after suffering a miscarriage. While trying to overcome the mental stress, she was also looking for employment. She applied for a manager’s position at a spa after seeing an advertisement on OLX. She informed her husband, who had left for Munnar with tourists that morning, that she had been called for an interview. She later told him that she had got the job. The accused then sent a vehicle to pick her up, telling her that there was an employees’ party.

Ammu, a Wayanad native, allegedly brought the woman to a lodge and gave her drugs along with ice cream. She was later rendered unconscious and sexually assaulted. The accused attempted to assault her again after administering drugs, including through food. Police have collected CCTV footage from the spa in Edappally.

Planned after ensuring her husband was away

The woman was taken to the lodge after the accused confirmed that her husband had left in a taxi. The second accused, Wayanad native Ammu, and the fourth accused, Sanju, are absconding. Sanju allegedly stopped the woman from escaping.

The Kochi City Police Commissioner said the absconding accused would be arrested soon. The woman’s detailed statement will be recorded once her health improves. The police will seek custody of Alappuzha native Sreeraj and Ernakulam native Jith Martin, who have already been arrested. Sreeraj has also been arrested in a drug-related case.

“We will ensure all necessary support for the survivor. The government will stand by her. I spoke to her husband over the phone and enquired directly about the situation. All government support, including medical treatment and legal assistance, will be ensured.”
