
KOZHIKODE: The Thamarassery police have registered a case against senior Congress leader and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) member E. Aravindan for allegedly assaulting a woman who approached him for official assistance.
According to law enforcement sources, the accused has been booked under relevant sections for outraging the modesty of a woman and sexual assault.
The incident reportedly occurred when the complainant approached Aravindan in his capacity as a public servant to seek assistance regarding the license renewal of a panchayat-owned commercial space. The victim had initially contacted the leader over the phone, following which he reportedly directed her to visit his residence to discuss the matter further.
The victim stated that while they were discussing the paperwork at his residence, Aravindan attempted to sexually assault her. The current license for the shop is set to expire on the 14th of next month, and the meeting was intended to expedite the extension process.
Aravindan is a prominent political figure in the region, having previously served a long tenure as the president of the Thamarassery Grama Panchayat and as the vice-president of the Koduvally Block Panchayat.
Following the incident, the complainant approached the Thamarassery police directly to lodge a formal complaint. Local authorities have confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the allegations is currently underway.
