Major drug bust in Mattancherry; Over 2 kg of MDMA seized, two in custody

KOCHI: A major drug bust was carried out in Mattancherry under the leadership of the police and the Kochi DANSAF team. Two people were taken into custody with more than two kilograms of MDMA. The drugs were seized in a search conducted as part of Operation Toofaan. Police suspect that more may be involved in the drug trafficking network.

Those in custody are Mattancherry native Noufal (35) and his associate. Noufal’s friend was arrested from Palarivattom the other day. A small quantity of MDMA was recovered from him. It was after questioning him, the police reached Noufal. A search of the rented house where Noufal was staying led to the recovery of a large quantity of MDMA.

Unconfirmed reports say that Noufal is a habitual offender and has been involved in drug sales for the past five years. Police suspect that more people are part of the drug trafficking network. The investigation is ongoing. The investigation team is questioning those in custody to trace the source of the drugs and uncover the distribution network.
