NEDUMBASSERY: The accused in the Mini Cooper accident that claimed the lives of three students have been sent back to the Borstal School after detailed questioning and evidence collection. The four accused- prime accused Suhail Sajeev (19), Ninav (19), Joel (19) and Ameen (19)- were brought back to the facility on Thursday evening. The Angamaly court had remanded them for 14 days before granting the police two days of custody for interrogation.

Police took only Suhail Sajeev to the accident spot for evidence collection. The exercise was conducted at 9.30 am under the supervision of Aluva DySP Baiju Paulose and a large police team. As a huge crowd had gathered at the location since morning, Suhail was not made to step out of the police vehicle.

He explained the accident spot, the place where the scooter was thrown off and the speed of the car at the time of the collision. The police also took the accused to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel near the airport, where the group had consumed alcohol, as well as a bar in Kadavanthra and the Monsoon Empress bar in Palarivattom for evidence collection.

Questioned in a closed room

The investigation team questioned all four accused in detail inside a closed room at the police station. They were subsequently produced before the court around 4 pm. The deceased are Karnataka native Mohammed Iyas (20), Wayanad native K. V. Devika (21) and Palakkad native M. P. Gopika (22). They died after a car driven at high speed by Suhail rammed into them.

Barber called by Borstal School authorities cut their hair

The hair of the accused was cut by a barber called in by the Borstal School authorities. On Wednesday morning, the accused, including prime accused Suhail Sajeev, who were lodged at the facility, had their hair cut short. The police had initially explained that the accused had cut their hair themselves using a personal trimmer. However, reports suggest that their hair was actually cut by a barber who regularly visits the Borstal School.

Their changed appearance caught public attention when they were brought to the Angamaly court on Wednesday. Following the controversy over the haircut, the prison department is reportedly conducting an inquiry into the incident.
