ERNAKULAM: A woman was attacked by her neighbour after she questioned an attempt to divert flowing rainwater towards her property in Ayyampilly, Ernakulam. The victim, artist Sheeja Kalappura, sustained serious injuries after being attacked by her neighbour, Sunny. The incident took place at around 5.15 pm on Sunday in Ayyampilly. According to reports, Sunny stabbed Sheeja with a metal broom handle, causing severe injuries to her neck.
The attack reportedly occurred when Sheeja questioned Sunny's attempt to block the flow of water on the road using soil and metal debris and redirect it towards her house. The assault allegedly took place in the presence of the ward councillor, who had arrived at the spot to mediate the dispute.
Sheeja has been living alone at her home in Ayyampilly following personal issues with her husband. She has alleged that Sunny had behaved inappropriately towards her on previous occasions as well. According to Sheeja, Sunny had repeatedly sent her inappropriate messages, which she had objected to. She also alleged that he had entered her house several times under the pretext of offering help and behaved improperly. She claims there are witnesses to support these allegations.
Sheeja further alleged that although she had previously filed a complaint at the Munambam Police Station, only minor charges were registered against Sunny. She said that although she lodged a complaint immediately after the attack, the accused was arrested only after the incident received media attention.
