ALAPPUZHA: Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi said that nobody invites him for inaugurations and income from that has been reduced. Suresh Gopi said this jokingly during an inaugural function of a private firm in Alappuzha.

‘I have done many inaugurations. It has been quite some time since I was invited to inaugurations. The income I used to get in that way has also stopped. I have no complaints about it. Whatever God has destined will happen. This inauguration is a beginning. I wish myself that this will mark the beginning of my return to inaugural functions.’

‘I have a unique character that no other elected representative has. I was born in Alappuzha. My mother’s house Sivasadanam is located on a large plot just southwest of the house of the Krishnan Nair Watch Company, near Thathappilly. That house no longer exists. My mother’s family is from Valady.

My grandfather was from Narakathara. If you ask whether I am from Kuttanad, I would say I am from the Kottayam side of Kuttanad, not Alappuzha’s Kuttanad. I studied in Kollam. My father took me to Kollam when I was three years old. It was only around the age of 32, after my marriage, that I came to Thiruvananthapuram, my wife’s native place. Thrissur gave me the opportunity to serve as an MP. If you ask whether any other MP or MLA has this unique background, the answer would be no,’ said Suresh Gopi.
