KOCHI: The remand report in the Nedumbassery Mini Cooper accident case has surfaced. The report states that Suhail drove the vehicle knowing that it could endanger human life. Suhail is the first accused in the case, which has a total of four accused.
According to the report, the second, third and fourth accused not only failed to stop Suhail from driving under the influence of alcohol but also allegedly encouraged him to drive at a higher speed.
The excise had earlier registered a case against Suhail for the offence of consuming liquor before turning 23. The case was registered by the Aluva excise range. A case has been registered against bars for serving him liquor. Excise Minister Liju responded that the government will make no compromise in this matter and will issue precise guidelines.
Wrongdoers below 21 are housed in Borstal schools. That is the law and it doesn’t mean that the accused has escaped from the case. The police are taking steps to ensure that he gets the maximum punishment prescribed by law. The families of the dead need not worry over that. Some are misleading them by making various claims. As a home minister, I assure that maximum punishment will be awarded to him. There is no doubt in that.
People are saying that he is from Alappuzha. What difference does it make which district he belongs to? No minister will intervene to save him. He is not from my constituency. All such claims are baseless. The fact that he was under the influence of alcohol can be officially recorded only after getting the report of his blood tests. Everything can be done only legally. We consider the concerns of the families of the dead. The accused is from my district, but there will be no move to save the accused, said Chennithala.
