KOCHI: The chargesheet was read out to the accused before the trial in the murder case of Abhimanyu, a student of Maharaja's College in Ernakulam. The first 16 accused in the case, SDPI Popular Front activists, were brought to the Ernakulam Sessions Court and the chargesheet was read out. When the court asked the accused whether they had committed the crime after reading the chargesheet, they denied it. The case will be considered again on July 24.
The prosecution presented the chargesheet of 26 accused in the court. Abhimanyu was stabbed to death during an argument related to graffiti on the campus on July 2, 2018. The trial, which had been dragging on for a long time, has now resumed. Important documents in the case missing from the court had sparked a controversy. After Abhimanyu's parents approached the high court against the delay in the trial, an order was issued to complete the proceedings within nine months.
