Accused in Malappuram morphing case attempts suicide 

MALAPPURAM: The accused in the Malappuram morphing case attempted suicide. 26-year-old Subin Babu of Odankuzhi in Thirumala, Thiruvananthapuram, allegedly tried to end his life by cutting his wrist at a lodge in Malappuram. People in the lodge, who saw this, rushed him to the hospital. Hospital authorities said that his health condition is presently stable. On being informed, his relatives reached Malappuram.

Subin, who was arrested in the case, was granted bail by the court. As one of the bail conditions prohibited him from leaving Malappuram, he was staying at a private lodge in the district. He had also been directed to appear before the investigating officers whenever required.

26-year-old Subin Babu, is a mobile phone technician in Thiruvananthapuram. The case against him is that he created fake accounts to target college students in the Malabar region, collected photos from their Instagram profiles, and circulated morphed versions of those images. Police said the acts were carried out for financial gains.

During initial interrogation, Subin told police that he had not morphed the photographs and claimed that another person had provided him with the pictures to make money. He later confessed to the crime. Complaints were received from more than ten colleges in Malappuram. The police had also contacted Meta and collected details related to the accounts and activities. Based on this information, Subin Babu was arrested.
