'Sought board or corporation posts for party, not myself': Akhil Marar rejects bargaining allegation

KOCHI: Filmmaker Akhil Marar, the NDA candidate in the Thrikkakara Assembly election, has rejected allegations made by the Twenty20 leadership. He said he had never bargained for any post or position. Akhil also said that if his aim had been to secure a post, he would have remained in the Congress.

He said the audio clip released by Twenty20 itself makes this clear.

"I do not want any board or corporation post. If that had been my goal, I would have stayed in the Congress," Akhil Marar said.

He also accused Twenty20 chief Sabu M. Jacob of betraying him.

The controversy began after Twenty20 released audio clips in which Akhil was allegedly heard saying that people active in politics need financial security to continue their work. He was also heard suggesting that board or corporation posts could provide such support.

However, Akhil said his remarks were not about seeking a post for himself. He claimed he was speaking about the party's growth and the need to strengthen its workers. The war of words between the two sides has intensified after Akhil Marar quit Twenty20, accusing Sabu M. Jacob of betraying him.
