KANNUR: In a tragic road mishap, two pedestrians—including a noted Malayalam film actor—were killed after a speeding car ran them over in front of the Kannavam police station near Koothuparamba on Tuesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Ismail (52), a cinema artist and native of Kannavam, and Sajeesh (52), a local tyre repair shop owner hailing from Thodeekalam Koodal.
According to local authorities, the accident occurred when a car travelling at high speed from the Peravoor direction lost control and struck the duo as they were walking along the roadside. The impact was so severe that both victims died on the spot. The vehicle finally came to a halt after crashing into a police surveillance camera post.
About the Victims: Ismail was a familiar face in the Malayalam film industry, famously known for his role in director Vinayan’s fantasy-comedy Albhutha Dweep, among other films. He is survived by his extended family and was the son of the late Abdu Rahman and Ayisha. Sajeesh was a local entrepreneur who operated a tyre puncture repair shop right across from the Kannavam police station.
The Kannavam police have registered a case and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted for autopsy procedures and will be handed over to their respective families subsequently.
