Malayali student subjected to brutal ragging by seniors in Chennai, case registered

KOLLAM: A Malayali student was brutally assaulted by a group of senior students—who were also Malayalees—in Chennai. The victim is Ali Ashkar (19), a third-year MIT student at a private medical college in Chennai and a native of Darul Minnath house, Adinadu, Karunagappally.

The incident occurred on the night of the 21st. Ali was staying in an apartment near the college with his classmates. The senior students' apartment was located nearby. The seniors first summoned one of Ali's classmates to their apartment and subjected him to ragging. Subsequently, they summoned Ali, and a group of about fifteen students assaulted him collectively. They injured him by stomping on his back and neck and threatened him against filing a police complaint.

Ali returned in a terrible state to his apartment, and his classmates took the initiative to board him on a train back home. The Karunagappally police recorded Ali's statement based on a complaint filed by his relatives. His relatives alleged that the group responsible for the attack included natives of Karunagappally.
